Procedure:
A breast augmentation, or breast enlargement, utilizes
saline implants to increase the size of the breasts.
Patients might desire this enhancement because of
preference or to improve their self-image. Other
patients might suffer disproportionate breasts or
may have lost fullness after giving birth. A breast
augmentation can often be performed in conjunction
with a breast lift, or mastopexy.
Length of procedure:
About 1-2 hours
Anesthesia:
General anesthesia
In/outpatient:
Outpatient
Risks:
Major complications are rare, though all surgical
procedures may carry some degree of risk. Specific
potential risks can’t be determined for any
given individual until a doctor in Oklahoma has
been able to meet with the patient to evaluate the
situation and prior health conditions.
Notable potential risks include
asymmetry, deflation, or an altered nipple or breast
skin sensitivity.
Recovery:
Initial discomfort is controlled with oral medication.
Back to work: several days
Strenuous activity: aerobic activity can usually
be resumed within about 3 weeks
Final appearance: scars will gradually fade over
a year or more
Duration of results:
Can vary – implant occasionally need to be
removed or replaced
