Procedure:
A breast lift, or mastopexy, raises and reshapes
sagging breasts. Repositioning the nipple-areolar
complex (the pigemented area around the nipples)
and removing excess skin, the breasts are elevated
and a more youthful contour is created. Many patients
have suffered sagging breasts because of previous
pregnancies, inevitable effects of aging, or because
of genetics. Other candidates might have enlarged
nipple-areolar complexes. A breast lift might be
performed in conjunction with a breast augmentation
or reduction for enhanced results.
Length of procedure:
About 1-3 hours
Anesthesia:
Sedation and local or general anesthesia
In/outpatient:
Outpatient
Risks:
Major complications are rare, though all surgical
procedures may carry some degree of risk. Specific
potential risks can’t be determined for any
given individual until a doctor in Oklahoma has
been able to meet with the patient to evaluate the
situation and prior health conditions.
Notable potential risks include
scarring, infection, and asymmetrical nipples.
Recovery:
Initial discomfort is controlled with oral medication.
Back to work: usually at least a week
Strenuous activity: about 1 month. Sutures are usually
completely removed in 2-3 weeks.
Final appearance: Scars have usually completely
faded within several months to 1 year
Duration of results:
Aging, gravity, pregnancy, or weight fluctuation
can affect the results. The combination of a lift
with implants usually helps lengthen the duration.
