Procedure:
Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, rejuvenates the
appearance of sagging, wrinkled, or puffy upper
or lower eyelid skin, and creates a more youthful
and rested look. It can also recreate the look of
an upper eyelid crease when the natural one has
faded over time. By removing excess fat and skin,
a blepharoplasty also can widen visual fields when
a saggy upper eyelid has partially interfered with
your vision.
Length of procedure:
About 1-3 hours
Anesthesia:
Sedation and local or general anesthesia
In/outpatient:
Outpatient
Risks:
Major complications are rare, though all surgical
procedures may carry some degree of risk. Specific
potential risks can’t be determined for any
given individual until a doctor in Oklahoma has
been able to meet with the patient to evaluate the
situation and prior health conditions.
Notable potential risks include
temporarily blurred vision, infection, bleeding,
and occasionally temporary difficulty fully shutting
the eyes.
Recovery:
Initial mild discomfort is easily controlled with
oral medication. Application of eye makeup can be
resumed once the sutures have been removed and contact
lenses can usually be worn comfortably within 7-10
days.
Back to work: about 1-2 weeks
Strenuous activity: about 3 weeks
Final appearance: swelling should be completely
gone in several weeks
Duration of results:
Several years, occasionally permanent
