Procedure:
Otoplasty, or ear pinning, corrects ears that stick
out too far from the side of the head. Appropriate
for almost all ages, including patients as young
as 5 or 6, this procedure will result in ears with
normal protrusion, folds, and shape.
Length
of procedure:
About 2-3 hours
Anesthesia:
Sedation and local or general anesthesia
In/outpatient:
Usually outpatient
Risks:
Major complications are rare, though all surgical
procedures may carry some degree of risk. Specific
potential risks can’t be determined for any
given individual until a doctor in Oklahoma has
been able to meet with the patient to evaluate the
situation and prior health conditions.
Some potential risks include
cartilage infection, scarring, or the need for corrective
surgery if the ears return to their protruded state.
Recovery:
Back to work or school: 5-7 days
Strenuous activity: usually at least one month
Final appearance: Usually look “normal”
within 2-3 weeks
Duration of results:
Usually permanent
